There are typically 4 functions of a leader: Leading, Planning, Organizing and Controlling. If a leader spends more time interacting with the ground directly, we term such a leader as "Ground Leader". Ground leader performs "control" function and moves peoples on the ground frequently.

Objectives

Creating Awareness
There are two types of awareness: inward and outward. Inward awareness is known as self-awareness. It creates clarity about oneself, supports the making of choices and is crucial in building CONFIDENCE. Outward awareness refers to awareness of task, environment and others. It allows leader to observe, hear and feel the ground to INITIATE action.

 

Applying Group Dynamics
Groups are constantly evolving. A firm understanding and learning of group dynamics in the area of participants' willingness to participate is key to a Ground Leader. Leader will scrutinize the concepts through 3 learning positions: Practitioner, Subject and Observer. This approach will put the knowledge gained into the muscle to translate the learning into practical skills.

 

Controlling Team
Skills supportive of the control of team include giving clear briefing, organizing and conduct of activities, getting and maintaining attention, as well as providing concise instructions are crucial. These skills are taught and apply in small and manageable chunks throughout the workshop.
